Submissions

Overview

Submissions are open to all students enrolled in an undergraduate program at a Canadian university or individuals who have graduated from an undergraduate program at a Canadian university in 2023. Note that acceptance of a submission requires participation in the revision process with the editorial board.

Submissions are reviewed by the editorial board for suitability in the journal based on relevancy to QJERS, originality, strength of the argument, structure, source usage, and overall strength of writing.

Guidelines

Please review the following guidelines prior to submission. Note that some guidelines may not apply to creative writing or visual art submissions. The author is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a Canadian university or graduated from an undergraduate program at a Canadian university in 2023.

  1. The manuscript engages with topics of race or ethnicity.

  2. The manuscript has not been previously published nor is currently in consideration for publication elsewhere.

  3. The manuscript is an essay (coursework, thesis section, independent research paper, etc.); a piece of creative writing (poetry, short story); or visual art (photography, painting). Opinion pieces and reviews are not accepted.

  4. Where possible, the manuscript uses inclusive language (“chairperson,” gender-neutral “they/them” pronouns where gender is unspecified, etc.)

  5. The manuscript employs 1” margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, is left justified, and is double spaced with no additional spacing between paragraphs.

  6. The manuscript adheres to APA 7th edition formatting and citation guidelines with in-text, parenthetical citations (“Professional Paper” formatting guidelines). For more information, visit Purdue Online Writing Lab’s page on APA 7 formatting.

  7. The manuscript uses Canadian English spellings (“organisation,” “centre,” “colour,” etc.).

  8. Maximum of 6000 words, excluding bibliography, title page, and abstract.

  9. An abstract of 150-300 words, including keywords listed separately.

  10. Submitted as a Word document (.docx) format.

Failure to adhere to any of the points above does not automatically disqualify a submission. If accepted, please be aware that the editorial board may ask you to revise your manuscript to align with the above criteria.
